Editoral Review

Karen White’s The Girl on Legare Street is a thrilling mystery novel that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. First published on November 3, 2009, it is the second book in the Tradd Street series.

Karen White is a New York Times bestselling author, known for her ability to seamlessly blend historical fiction and mystery genres.

The novel is set in Charleston, South Carolina, and tells the story of Melanie Middleton, a successful real estate agent who inherits a historic house on Legare Street. However, the house comes with a ghostly presence that threatens to unravel Melanie’s life.

As she uncovers dark secrets from the past, she realizes that her own family is in danger. With the help of Jack Trenholm, a writer and former flame, Melanie embarks on a dangerous journey to solve the mystery and protect her loved ones.

White’s writing style is engaging and descriptive, painting a vivid picture of Charleston’s historic buildings and streets. She expertly weaves together the present-day story with flashbacks to the 19th century, creating a rich and complex plot that keeps readers guessing until the very end.

The characters are well-developed, with Melanie and Jack’s chemistry providing a compelling romantic subplot.

The novel explores themes of family, love, loss, and the supernatural. It also touches on important issues such as mental health and addiction.

White’s attention to historical detail adds a layer of cultural significance, illuminating the legacy of slavery and racism in Charleston’s history.

Overall, The Girl on Legare Street is a gripping page-turner that will appeal to fans of both mystery and historical fiction genres. However, some readers may find the plot to be predictable, and the pacing slow at times.

The supernatural elements may also be off-putting to some readers.

Despite its flaws, The Girl on Legare Street is a compelling read that will leave readers wanting more. Its themes and historical significance make it a valuable addition to the genre.

I recommend it to fans of Karen White’s previous works, as well as anyone looking for a suspenseful and thought-provoking read.
