About the Author

When Brent Weeks was just a kid of 12, he discovered two things in a small Montana school that would shape his life forever. The first was the work of Edgar Allan Poe, which showed him how literature can transport you beyond the bounds of time, death, and isolation.

The second was a girl named Kristi Barnes, who captured his heart.

Unfortunately, Brent’s first attempt at winning over his beloved with a novel was a flop. However, he didn’t give up on either his writing or his pursuit of Kristi.

Fast forward through some less exciting moments, and Brent has now written eight highly successful novels, including the Night Angel Trilogy and the Lightbringer Series. He’s won awards in the industry and sold millions of copies of his books.

Brent and Kristi, who he did eventually win over, now live in Oregon with their two daughters.

Editoral Review

Brent Weeks’ The Night Angel Trilogy is a stunning example of epic fantasy literature. This trilogy, first published in 2009, has become a cult classic, admired by fans everywhere.

The American author’s work, characterized by a dark tone, complex plot, and humor, is sure to please both new and experienced readers of this genre. Set in the gritty world of Midcyru, The Night Angel Trilogy follows the story of Azoth, an orphan boy who grows up in the slums of Cenaria City.

Under the tutelage of Durzo Blint, a famous assassin, Azoth transforms himself into Kylar Stern, a skilled killer who must navigate the dangers of court life and the underground world of magic and politics. At its core, this trilogy is a story of redemption, with Azoth/Kylar struggling to overcome his brutal past, confront his fears and become a hero.

The central characters are well developed and the relationships between them are emotionally resonant. The political intrigue, battles, and magical powers, while not groundbreaking, are engaging enough to keep readers hooked.

Weeks has an impressive style, with noteworthy world-building and vivid descriptions of action and battle scenes. He also handles the complexity of the narrative skillfully.

His use of flashbacks and interweaving of multiple storylines add depth to the narrative and enhance themes of sacrifice, love, and morality. The Night Angel Trilogy is not without its flaws, however.

Some aspects of the plot could have been better developed. The romantic subplots, for example, feel formulaic and detract from the story.

Additionally, the pacing could have been tighter in places, particularly in the second book, Shadow’s Edge. Despite these minor criticisms, The Night Angel Trilogy is a standout achievement in the genre.

Brent Weeks has created a beautiful world, with dynamic characters and intricate plotting. For fans of epic fantasy, this is an absolute must-read.

Its allure lies in its ability to be both entertaining and profound, a story that is both impressive and accessible. Overall, The Night Angel Trilogy gets a score of 9 out of 10.

It’s a fantastic series that can be enjoyed on its own merits or as a comparison to similar works in the genre. To all fantasy lovers out there, Brent Weeks’ work is a classic that shouldn’t be missed.
