The Rembrandt Affair is part of his Gabriel Allon series, which features an Israeli intelligence officer turned art restorer who becomes involved in international espionage. The novel explores themes of corruption, betrayal, and art theft, and is set against the backdrop of the European art world.

The Rembrandt Affair begins with Gabriel Allon being approached by a friend to investigate the theft of a painting by Rembrandt from an art gallery in Zurich. As he delves deeper into the case, he discovers that the theft is connected to a wider conspiracy involving stolen art and political corruption.

Along the way, he reconnects with his wife, Chiara, who is also an intelligence officer, and deals with personal and professional challenges. Silva masterfully weaves together various plotlines, taking the reader on a thrilling ride through the world of art theft and espionage.

Allon is a fascinating and complex character, and Silva does an excellent job of developing him throughout the series. In The Rembrandt Affair, Allon is at his best as he navigates through the dangerous world of international politics and art smuggling.

Silva’s writing is engaging and descriptive, and he paints a vivid picture of the European art world. He also delves into the history and significance of the artwork involved in the theft, adding depth to the story.

The pacing is excellent, and the plot twists and turns will keep readers engaged from the beginning to the end.
