Editoral Review

The Riftwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist is a much-loved classic in the fantasy genre.

Originally published in 1982, it spawned numerous sequels and spin-offs, becoming a cultural icon in its own right. Raymond E.

Feist is a prolific fantasy author, with over 30 books to his name, many set in the same universe as The Riftwar Saga. The Riftwar Saga is a sweeping epic centered around two worlds: the magical realm of Midkemia and the more mundane world of Kelewan.

The novel follows a young orphan named Pug, who is taken in as an apprentice to a magician, and his best friend Tomas, a warrior. Together, they are caught up in a war between the two worlds, as invaders from Kelewan threaten the very existence of Midkemia.

Along the way, they encounter a host of colorful characters, including other magicians, warriors, dragons and elves. At its core, The Riftwar Saga is a story about the battle between good and evil, with plenty of action, adventure, and magic to keep readers entertained.

Feist does an excellent job of world-building, immersing readers in a richly detailed fantasy universe. The characters are well-drawn and likeable, with Pug and Tomas being particularly strong protagonists.

There is a good balance between action and introspection, with Feist taking the time to explore the deeper themes of the story. One of the strengths of The Riftwar Saga is Feist’s ability to create a vivid and compelling world.

The fantasy elements are seamlessly integrated into the story, with magic and dragons feeling like natural parts of the landscape. Feist’s writing is also strong, with a great sense of pacing and a talent for descriptive prose.

However, one of the drawbacks of the book is its length. At over 700 pages, it can be a bit of a slog at times.

Some readers may also find the plot to be a bit formulaic, with the familiar trope of a chosen one who must save the world. Additionally, the female characters in the story are often relegated to supporting roles, which may be disappointing for some readers.

In conclusion, The Riftwar Saga is a classic of the fantasy genre that still holds up today. It is a well-crafted epic with strong characters, vivid world-building, and plenty of action.

While it may be somewhat formulaic and overly long for some readers, it is still a highly enjoyable read. Fans of the genre should definitely check it out, as should anyone looking to escape into a richly imagined world.

Overall, I would give The Riftwar Saga a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
