Editoral Review
The Walking Dead, Book Ten by Robert Kirkman is a graphic novel that has defined the zombie apocalypse genre. The book was first published on September 9, 2014, and is the tenth installment of The Walking Dead comic series.
Kirkman is an American comic book writer who is best known for his work on The Walking Dead, an Eisner Award-winning series that has been adapted into a successful television series. The Walking Dead, Book Ten continues the story of the survivors of the zombie apocalypse, focusing on Rick Grimes and his group of survivors as they struggle to find safety in a world overrun by walkers.
This graphic novel is not for the faint of heart, as it features graphic violence and mature content. Kirkman’s style is emotive, allowing readers to feel the tension and fear experienced by the characters.
The themes of survival, morality, and humanity are evident throughout the book, providing readers with thought-provoking questions and vivid descriptions of a barren world. The Walking Dead, Book Ten starts with Rick and his group finding refuge in a walled community called Alexandria Safe-Zone.
The group’s first encounter with Rick’s new neighbors becomes the primary conflict of the book. The people of Alexandria have been sheltered from the apocalypse and have yet to face many of the harsh realities of the new world.
Kirkman expertly creates nuanced characters, each with their own sense of morality and individual vulnerabilities. The artwork, done by Charlie Adlard, is exceptional.
The black and white illustrations bring the characters, and the world in which they live, to life. The Walking Dead, Book Ten is visually stunning and allows readers to feel the emotions and struggles of each character.
Kirkman’s expert storytelling provides readers with a narrative rich in character development, suspenseful pacing, and expertly crafted plot structure. His writing style draws readers in and immerses them in this post-apocalyptic world.
The Walking Dead, Book Ten is a prime example of his skills as a writer and his ability to tell a captivating story. However, the book is not without its flaws.
The villain in the story is a bit one-dimensional, lacking the depth that Kirkman provides his other characters. Additionally, some of the conflicts feel repetitive, and the story could benefit from more variety in the challenges faced by the group.
Overall, The Walking Dead, Book Ten is a must-read for fans of the series and the genre. Kirkman’s ability to create relatable characters and expertly craft a post-apocalyptic world is impressive.
The book is not for everyone, but those who enjoy the horror and drama of the genre will not be disappointed. The Washington Post recommends The Walking Dead, Book Ten to anyone interested in a captivating story with well-established characters and intense suspense.
The book is rated 8/10, as the storytelling and character development are excellent, but the book could benefit from more varied conflicts and a less one-dimensional villain.
