About the Author
Philip K. Dick, a Chicago native, spent most of his life in California.
He began his professional writing career in 1952, penning a multitude of novels and short-story collections. In 1962, his novel The Man in the High Castle secured him a Hugo Award for Best Novel, and in 1974, he won the John W.
Campbell Memorial Award for Best Novel of the Year with Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said. Sadly, Philip K.
Dick passed away on March 2, 1982, in Santa Ana, California, after suffering a stroke and subsequent heart failure.
Throughout his career, Dick wrote and published 44 novels and an impressive 121 short stories, most of which appeared in science fiction magazines during his lifetime. Despite his financial struggles, ten of his stories have been adapted into popular films since his death, including Blade Runner, Total Recall, and Minority Report.
In 2005, Time magazine recognized one of his works as one of the one hundred greatest English-language novels published since 1923. Additionally, in 2007, Dick became the first science fiction writer to be included in The Library of America series.
