About the Author

Suzanne Weyn grew up in the charming town of Williston Park on Long Island. She was one of five siblings and had a deep passion for theater and reading.

Her favorite author growing up was Louisa May Alcott, but she also devoured every Sherlock Holmes story she could get her hands on. Suzanne was lucky enough to live close to the ocean, and going to Jones Beach was one of her favorite activities.

Even now, if she goes too long without seeing the ocean, she starts feeling restless.

Today, Suzanne lives with her husband, two teenage daughters, and Abby the cat in upper New York State. Her house is situated at the edge of the woods and is almost 200 years old.

Suzanne graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton and later received her Masters degree from Pace University. She currently teaches part-time at City College in New York.

Suzanne has written several books for Simon Pulse, including South Beach Sizzle, a romantic comedy written with Diana Gonzalez. Her novels for the Simon Pulse line, “Once Upon a Time,” include The Night Dance, a retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses, Water Song, a retelling of the Frog Prince, and The Crimson Thread, a retelling of Rumplestiltskin.

Suzanne enjoys reimagining these classic tales from an original point of view and always seeks to uncover the real psychological underpinnings of each story. Suzanne is currently revising her fourth book in the line, which will be released in 2009.

Suzanne’s recent novels include The Bar Code Tattoo (2004) and its sequel, The Bar Code Rebellion (2006). The Bar Code Tattoo was selected by the American Library Association (ALA) as a ’05 Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers and was a ’07 Nevada Library nominee for “Best Young Adult Fiction”.

It has been translated into German and was nominated for the ’07 Jugenliteraturpreis for Young People’s Literature.

Editoral Review

Water Song by Suzanne Weyn is a young adult novel that was first published on October 1, 2006. Suzanne Weyn is an experienced author of books for young adults, and her latest book explores some of the most pressing issues in our world.

The novel is set in the future, following a time when the world has been ravaged by climate change and environmental disasters. Water Song is a captivating story with a strong environmental message.

The story takes place in a community where water has become a rare commodity, and people are forced to pay exorbitant prices just to stay hydrated. The protagonist, Angel, is a young girl who has a special talent – she can communicate with water.

When Angel discovers the extent of the corruption and greed that is keeping water scarce, she decides to do something about it. The novel is set in a fully-realized world that is both terrifying and believable.

The desolate landscapes and dying ecosystems are vividly portrayed, providing the reader with a fully immersive experience. The characters are well-written, and the pacing of the story is excellent.

The book’s themes revolve around environmentalism, activism, and the power of hope. Weyn’s prose is beautiful and evocative, particularly when describing the natural world.

Her writing has a poetic quality that elevates the story, making for a truly enjoyable reading experience. The plot is well-structured, and the tension builds gradually, leading to a satisfying conclusion.

One of the strengths of the novel is the way it tackles complex issues in an accessible way. Weyn does an excellent job of incorporating scientific concepts like climate change and water scarcity into the narrative without sacrificing readability.

The novel is an excellent starting point for young readers interested in environmentalism and activism. It also has relevance for readers of all ages, given the pressing need to address the climate crisis in our world today.

If there is one weakness to the book, it is that the ending is somewhat predictable. However, this is a minor flaw, and it does not detract from the overall quality of the novel.

Overall, Water Song by Suzanne Weyn is a thought-provoking and beautifully written novel. It is an essential read for young readers interested in environmentalism, as well as anyone who cares about the future of our planet.

This book is highly recommended, and I give it a rating of four out of five stars.
