Editoral Review

In Melissa Brown’s Picturing Perfect, readers are taken on a journey of self-acceptance and the pursuit of happiness in the face of adversity. Brown, an accomplished romance novelist, published Picturing Perfect on June 11, 2013, and it quickly cemented her reputation as a gifted storyteller.

The novel follows the story of Claire Warren, a talented photographer who has everything going for her- talent, a supportive friend group, and a successful career. However, her world comes crumbling down when her ex-boyfriend, Blake; a renowned artist, publicly humiliates her after their break-up by exhibiting some of the risqu photos she took of him without his consent.

At the same time, she discovers that her stepfather whom she adored also knew about it and kept it a secret from her, causing a tremendous strain in their relationship. Because of this scandal, she becomes the talk of the town, loses her client base and her passion for photography.

Brown’s writing style is fluid, engaging, and highly descriptive. She takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride as Claire embarks on a journey of self-discovery and recovery.

The pacing of the plot is consistent, with well-timed twists and turns to keep the reader engaged. Brown also did an excellent job of character development, with each character holding their own unique backstories that contribute to the plot.

Picturing Perfect confronts the issue of sexual harassment without necessarily emphasizing it. Brown shows us that victims of harassment face repercussions not only from the harasser but also from people who are supposed to be their support systems.

In this regard, Brown accomplishes something significant, encouraging readers to reflect on how they can help individuals going through similar experiences. While Picturing Perfect is an excellent book, it has its limitations.

Some of the characters’ resolutions felt too clean andtoo neat. Additionally, the plot’s focus on Claire can make some readers feel like other storylines aren’t given enough room to breathe.

Despite these drawbacks, the novel is still a satisfying read with a well-crafted plot and character arcs that will leave readers feeling hopeful. Overall, Melissa Brown’s Picturing Perfect is an impressive novel that will make readers reflect on what it means to be truly happy and fulfilled.

The book is recommended to fans of the romance genre who are looking for a thought-provoking read with an empowering message. On a scale of one to ten, the book receives a 9.5, acknowledging its compelling storylines, well-developed characters, and the message of hope that reverberates throughout the book’s pages.
