About the Author

Sharie Kohler, also known as Sophie Jordan, has always been passionate about writing. As a teenager, she would daydream in her high school Spanish class and eventually wrote her first historical romance novel.

This passion led her to pursue a degree in English and History.

Although she briefly attended law school, she found the subject matter to be dull and decided to become an English teacher instead. After a few years of teaching, Sophie left her job to focus on writing, which had always been her dream.

In just under three years, Sophie published her first book, which was nominated for Best First Historical at the 2006 Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Awards. Her second novel, released in March 2007, was a huge success, landing on the USA Today Bestseller’s List.

Editoral Review

In Rise of Fire, Sophie Jordan takes readers back to a world where dragons rule and the fate of the human species hangs in the balance. Set in a post-apocalyptic landscape, this novel is a thrilling continuation of the Firelight series, and a testament to Jordan’s immense talent as a writer.

Jordan is an accomplished author of young adult and fantasy novels, having written many popular works such as the Reign of Shadows and Uninvited series. Her writing style is engaging and accessible, featuring relatable characters and intriguing worlds full of wonder and danger.

Rise of Fire picks up where the previous book left off, with the inhabitants of a small community of dragon shifters struggling to survive against an encroaching army of dragons. The story is told through the eyes of the main character, Jacinda, a young woman who possesses the powers of the rarest and most powerful dragon of all, the fire breather.

The novel is both fast-paced and highly emotional, as Jacinda grapples with her own inner demons while fighting to protect her loved ones from imminent danger. The setting is vividly rendered, with Jordan deftly balancing the fantastical with the familiar, creating a world that feels both magical and grounded in reality.

The book tackles themes of power, identity, love, and betrayal with sensitivity and insight, delving into the complex relationships between the dragon shifters as they navigate the uncertain future of their race. There is plenty of action and suspense to keep readers on the edge of their seats, but it is the depth of character and emotional resonance that really sets this novel apart.

Jordan’s writing is masterful, with vivid descriptions and an evocative prose style that immerses readers in the story. The plot is tightly crafted, with twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the very end.

The only real weakness of the book is that it may not have the same impact for those who have not read the first book in the series, as some of the character dynamics and plot points may be lost without that background knowledge. Overall, Rise of Fire is an exceptional work of fantasy fiction that will thrill fans of the genre and leave them eagerly awaiting the next installment.

With its gripping plot, nuanced characters, and expertly crafted world-building, this novel is a must-read for anyone who loves a good adventure story with heart. Rating: 4.5/5
