Overview

When Katie Price inherits an estate in the Scottish Highlands from a man claiming to be her grandfather, she is both surprised and intrigued. The inheritance includes a whiskey distillery and a castle where her grandfather actually lived until his death.

However, there’s a catch – Katie must travel to Scotland to claim her inheritance in person. As she spends more time there, she begins to uncover family secrets that have been buried for years.

Katie delves into a 250-year-old mystery surrounding the disappearance of Isobel, the Laird’s young wife, from the castle shortly after the Battle of Culloden. As she unravels the mystery, she finds herself falling in love unexpectedly.

Will Katie be able to solve the mystery and claim her inheritance?

About the Author

As a child, I always dreamed of writing a novel. However, as I grew up, the practicalities of life and my self-doubt got in the way, and it wasn’t until decades later that I finally had the chance to take up my pen.

To be honest, I didn’t think I had it in me to write a full-length novel. But as soon as I began to type, the world around me faded away, and I found myself lost in the lives of my characters.

It was then that I knew that writing was my true calling.

Since that first novel, I’ve written many more books, and I’ve been fortunate enough to receive some positive reviews. But even now, when I take a moment to pause and reflect, I’m still amazed that I’m actually living my dream.

Editoral Review

The Inheritance by Irina Shapiro is a thrilling historical fiction novel that takes readers on a journey through time. Shapiro is an accomplished author who has written multiple books in the genre, and she brings her expertise to bear in this latest work.

The novel was first published in August 2011 and has since become a popular choice for readers who enjoy compelling historical fiction. The Inheritance is a gripping story that follows the lives of two women, one in the present day and the other in the 17th century.

The present-day protagonist, Callie, discovers that she has inherited a house from a distant relative. Upon arriving at the house, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to the past and begins researching her family’s history.

Meanwhile, in the 17th century, a young woman named Elizabeth is trying to navigate the treacherous waters of love and family in a society that is both rigid and brutal. The plot of The Inheritance is both intricate and captivating.

The main characters are well-developed and memorable, and Shapiro expertly weaves together the separate storylines in a way that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. The setting of the novel is also expertly crafted, with historical details that are both accurate and engaging.

One of the strengths of The Inheritance is Shapiro’s ability to transport readers back in time. Her attention to detail is impeccable, and she paints a vivid picture of life in the 17th century.

Her research is evident in every page, and her love for the subject matter shines through. Additionally, the themes of family, love, and sacrifice that run throughout the book are universal and timeless, making this novel relevant even in today’s modern world.

However, one of the weaknesses of The Inheritance is its pacing. At times, the plot moves slowly and can become bogged down in historical details.

Some readers may find this to be a distraction from the otherwise gripping narrative. Additionally, the two timelines can be confusing at times, and readers may need to reread certain passages in order to understand the relationships between characters.

Overall, The Inheritance is a captivating and well-written novel. Shapiro’s attention to detail and love for the subject matter are evident on every page, and the plot is both intricate and engaging.

While there are some weaknesses in pacing and structure, these are minor quibbles in an otherwise excellent novel. Readers of historical fiction, especially those interested in the 17th century, will find much to enjoy in The Inheritance.

Additionally, anyone who enjoys a good mystery or family drama will find this novel to be a satisfying read. The Inheritance is highly recommended for anyone looking for a well-written and engaging historical fiction novel.

4.5 out of 5 stars.
